Description:
Symphony Orchestra
Exact instrumentation: 2.2.2.2. - 4.3.3.1. - timpani, percussion (2) - strings
The title, which translates as 'to shout for joy', reflects the generally celebratory mood of this short 'mini-overture'. Although the piece - commissioned by the Madison Symphony Orchestra for its 75th anniversary season - celebrates the anniversary milestone and bright future of the orchestra, I chose to title it in Latin as a small way to honor the past as well. The work opens with a solemn 'fanfare' by the solo trumpet. This theme, based on a tune appropriate to the occasion, is then taken up by the horns and the rest of the orchestra in a fanfare of celebration. This gives way to jubilant new musical material...
