It was overdue: the Urtext new edition of the perhaps most performed double bass work, which until now was only available in abbreviated and edited form. The new edition is based on the only surviving source, a set of parts from the estate of the composer and double bass virtuoso Johannes Sperger. The score and orchestral parts are printed in two keys - as in the new edition of the Hoffmeister Concerto - so that the work can be played in orchestral/Viennese tuning as well as in solo tuning. Corresponding possibilities are also offered by the edition for double bass and piano, which additionally contains cadenzas by the editor.
