Description:
Mendelssohn's Double Concerto in D minor is by now no rare guest on concert programs. A new feature of this publication within the 'Leipzig Edition of the Works of Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy' is the addition of 12 winds and timpani, which the composer had written down in a separate wind score. This partial score has only recently been rediscovered, so that the soloists in the recordings available up to now have always been accompanied only by a string orchestra. Since a performance with winds and timpani could not be proven so far, the presumed premiere of the double concerto with full symphony orchestra took place on February 27, 1999 in Darmstadt with Latica Honda-Rosenberg (violin), Beatrice Berthold (piano) and the Kammerphilharmonie Merck conducted by Christian Rudolf Riedel.
