Description:
With his composition "L'Aurore" (Dawn) in 1905, Maurice Ravel started his fifth and last attempt to win the coveted "Prix de Rome" of the Académie des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His renewed elimination in the preliminary round caused a stir. The so-called "Ravel affair" triggered a historic scandal and discussions about the jury's lack of competence and impartiality.
Despite the narrow specifications of the competition, Ravel has created an extremely individual and harmonically very colourful work based on the given text from the pen of Édouard Guinand, which exploits the timbres of the orchestra in a special way. The demands for the choir are manageable. Carus also offers free pronunciation aids for rehearsal. This
first Urtext edition of the work is based on the composer's autograph. A piano reduction and performance material are also available.
