Description:
Schubert's last great mass, whose premiere in October 1829 he did not live to see.
"Striving for the highest in art" - with these words Schubert had announced his Mass in A flat major to the Schott publishing house in 1828. As an artistic credo, however, the statement may also apply to the last great mass composed in the same year, whose premiere in October 1829 Schubert did not live to see. A source-critical new edition of the Mass in E-flat major should not be missing from Breitkopf & Härtel. Peter Jost has taken on this demanding task and achieved a convincing result that meets all the requirements of the "Breitkopf Urtext".
