Luigi Cherubini’s "Messe solennelle in D minor" is certainly one of the most extensive settings of the Mass Ordinary ever composed—the Gloria alone spans nearly 900 measures. After a seemingly familiar opening, melodic lines and harmonic developments constantly take on a whole new direction through unexpected, imaginative, and ingenious twists. But what seems effortless in the concert hall poses a challenge for the choir: harmonic variety, fluid chord changes, and precise synchronization require a great deal of practice. Every voice must be in perfect unison here—for only then can this impressive work unfold its full brilliance. Carus Choir Coach offers choir singers the unique opportunity to individually rehearse their part within the overall sound of the choir and instruments. A separate MP3 CD or downloadable album containing all choral parts is available for each voice part. The Carus Choir Coach is based on recordings by renowned performers who sang from the carefully prepared Carus Urtext edition. The choral parts are available in three versions: 1) Original recording, 2) Coach: the respective voice part is played along on the piano, with the original recording in the background, 3) Coach in Slow Mode: by reducing the tempo of the Coach track to 70% of the original, complex passages can be practiced effectively.
