Description:
As Kapellmeister of the royal court theater in Dresden, Carl Maria von Weber's primary task was to establish a German opera at court. However, it was also part of his duties to provide the "church service" every three weeks. This suited the opera composer Weber, who regarded his artistic gift as a "gift from heaven". His "Missa sancta" No. 2 bears the nickname "Jubilee Mass". He composed it for the festive service on the occasion of the golden wedding anniversary of the Saxon royal couple Friedrich August I (1750-1827) and Marie Amalie Auguste (1752-1828) in January 1819. The offertory "In die solemnitatis", which was included in accordance with Dresden court practice at the time, underlines the festive occasion.
Due to its manageable length, the "Jubel-Messe" can also be used in a liturgical setting today without any problems. The demands of the choral part are also feasible for amateur choirs who wish to celebrate festive occasions in church services or concerts with this Missa. The critical Urtext edition also takes into account the practical requirements of the performers: Modern orchestral material is available for purchase for the first time, and a piano reduction is also available.
