Description:
A 'firework' in Urtext
After 'Boléro' and 'La Valse', a third, much-performed work by Ravel is included in the Breitkopf orchestral program - and this, of course, in a 'Breitkopf Urtext' edition, again edited by Ravel expert Jean-François Monnard. Spain was practically in the air as a compositional destination after 1900, as evidenced by Debussy's 'Iberia', for example, and Monnard's trenchant preface virtuously draws lines of connection between the composers active in Paris at the time, including Igor Stravinsky in those years. The 'Rapsodie espagnole' is especially considered a masterpiece as far as Ravel's instrumentation magic is concerned. This firework of orchestration simply deserves a reliable and purchasable performance material that can remain permanently in the possession of every professional orchestra.
