Jan Ladislav Dussek was born in Bohemia in 1760 and died in Paris in 1812. His works include 18 piano concertos of which the third, in its rondo-finale, follows musical fashion by taking its theme from a popular song The Ploughboy, by William Shield (1748 - 1829), which had at that time attained the popularity of a folk-song. This arrangement is a slightly abbreviated version of the original, and the orchestral accompaniment has been amplified for modern orchestra.
