Description:
Max Bruch's "Rorate coeli" is an impressive setting of the well-known Advent text "O Heiland, reiß die Himmel auf". In an extremely sophisticated compositional style, Bruch combines the two orchestral forces of choir and orchestra to create an expressive and moving depiction of humanity's waiting for the Savior. At its premiere in 1869, the work was initially celebrated as Bruch's most important choral composition, but was later largely forgotten. Almost 150 years after its composition, it is now being made available for the first time in a scholarly-critical edition. The work is suitable, for example, as an addition to a Christmas concert with Rheinberger's "Stern von Bethlehem".
