  • Genre: Traditional
The second of the lively Six Rumanian Dances, written by Dumitru (first name) Ionel (family Name), is one of the most popular compositions by this Rumanian tuba virtuoso of the last century (1915-1997). In this work, the tuba surprises the listener with the grâce and lightness of his voice. Then, in a central lyric passage, the instrument shows its expressive power. Ionel makes plenty use of the typical Balkan melodic and rhythmic idioms, which imprint his works with a special charm. With his pleasant contrasts and his virtuoso passages, this Rumanian Dance no. 2 (2 minutes and 20 sec.) is idealy in keeping in a concert program or as a spectacular encore.

In his orchestration (2015), Willi Maerz underlines well the dancing, festiv, joyful and sometimes humoristic aspects of the danse, using woodwind accompagnying figures. The strong tutti passages contrasts with a transparent instrumentation which always leave the priority to the dynamics of the solo instrument.
