Description:
Composed by Antonín Dvorák (1841-1904) in the spring of 1883, SCHERZO CAPRICCIOSO IN D-FLAT MAJOR, Op. 66/B. 131 is a favorite of the concert hall not only for its colorful humor but also for its restlessness. It is sometimes conjectured that the dramatic contrasts in the work were influenced by the recent death of his mother. The first performance took place at the National Theatre in Prague on May 16, 1883, Adolf Cech conducting. It quickly proved popular with critics and audiences. Instrumentation: 2+Picc.2+EH.2+BCl.2: 4.2.3.1: Timp.Perc(2-3): Hp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set). Reprint of Otakar Šourek's critical edition.
