Symphonies Nos. 1 and 5, ed. by Albrecht Dürr Kalliwoda entered the classical heritage with his symphonic works - his first work was compared by contemporaries to Mozart's late symphonies. On the other hand, Kalliwoda influenced the somewhat younger generation of Romantic composers: when Robert Schumann heard Kalliwoda's 5th Symphony in Leipzig in 1839/40, he held the work in high esteem and shortly thereafter used a theme from Kalliwoda's 1st Symphony in his D minor Symphony.
