Description:
This critical edition of Janácek's most famous orchestral composition, the "Sinfonietta", is an updated version of the edition published by Universal Edition in 2017, which has been supplemented by a critical report and new findings have been incorporated into the text and music sections.
The volume examines this late work by Janácek in detail. The preface deals with the circumstances of the composition's creation as well as the premiere on June 26, 1926 in the Smetana Hall of the Municipal House by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Václav Talich, who had a decisive influence on the final version of the score. It also deals with problems in connection with the publication of the work and the changes to the title.
The edition is essentially based on the premiere version of the work, i.e. on an authorized copy of the score and on the parts prepared by Václav Sedlácek. Additional sources have also been consulted, including the autograph and first sketches, the first editions in which Janácek actively participated, as well as letters from the composer with his corrections and specific instructions.
