Description:
Exploring the Eroica was the title of the essay with which the editor emerged as early as 1998 and made a significant contribution to researching the complex tradition. The autograph of the work, composed in 1803, is lost. The title "Sinfonia Eroica" is already found in the first edition (but only there). The main source of the edition is the score copy, carefully checked and altered by Beethoven, into which he entered corrections even after the first print of the part appeared. Additionally, because of the dynamic indications, part copies for first performances (before printing), as well as the extremely erroneous first edition of the parts are relevant - but especially another part print, which Beethoven also corrected. With the new performance material, the musical text of the new Beethoven Complete Edition can be heard - as an alternative to the "Breitkopf Urtext" edition by Peter Hauschild.
