The path my work will take in the coming years depends on the accuracy of the vocal parts. Mahler made this demand not only of C. F. Kahnt, the first publisher of the Sixth Symphony, but also of himself. The premiere scores, which he painstakingly collated down to the smallest detail, bear eloquent witness to this.
