the answer to the questions asked often follows the two final lines drawn. The many interconnected stages in the one-part composition are given symbolic names. Time. Fear. Conviction. Conscience. Evil. Inside. Refuge. Pain. Love. The unchanging, inexorable, almost mechanical, cosmic passage of time at the beginning of the piece - time. As if observing the earth from outer space, its overlapping with the impenetrable, oppressive fog of language, truth, conviction. The time stream creates an overwhelming fear. In several places Morse's SOS signal is encoded in the musical material. Perhaps the first conviction is mistaken, perhaps it is mistaken in one's own convictions? Unconvinced discoveries within, from the depths, make the conscience speak. Alienation from it brings evil and disaster. The original motif of time has been transformed into a huge, world-splitting axe, which we ourselves wield with our own industrious hands. The inward turning, the desire
to flee, is the result, covering ourselves, the world around us, closing our eyes and ears. A distant glimpse of Paradise - a warming possibility of refuge, but its attainment is a goal that recedes for a while without defeating itself, forever living a life lived many times before. Pain and life in the shadow of the ghosts of the past. Love that lives outside - far away, in a place that can only be reached in silence. Believing." This format is an A4 study score.
