Description:
Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) wrote his Symphony in C minor, Op. 68 between 1854 and 1876. The long period of composition resulted from Brahms' self-criticism, with the composer destroying much of his early works, and from the daunting expectation that he would continue the legacy of Beethoven. Following the work's completion, it premiered on November 4, 1876, in Karlsruhe, Felix Otto Dessoff conducting. The work is now a standard part of the orchestral repertoire. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2+CBsn: 4.2.3.0: Timp: Str (9-8-7-6-5 in set).
