Description:
Johannes Brahms (1833-1897) composed his Symphony No. 2 in D Major, Op. 73 while on a retreat in Pörtschach am Wörthersee in the summer of 1877. With his first efforts in the symphonic form finally complete, following over fourteen years of labor, the next one appears to have come easily for him. Due to its sunny, often relaxed nature, it has been described as his "pastoral" symphony. Hans Richter conducted the first performance with the Vienna Philharmonic on December 30, 1877. Instrumentation: 2.2.2.2: 4.2.3.1: Timp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set). Reprint edition.
