Description:
Symphony in D major (Sinfonía a Gran Orquesta) was composed in 1824 by Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga (1806-1826), the remarkable Spanish composer whose precocious talent earned him the nickname "the Spanish Mozart." Written while he was a student at the Paris Conservatoire, the symphony draws stylistic inspiration from Haydn, Mozart, and early Beethoven while still showcasing Arriaga's individuality. Today the Symphony in D major stands as Arriaga's most substantial orchestral work and the centerpiece of his legacy, performed occasionally by modern orchestras and increasingly appreciated and as a glimpse of a brilliant career tragically cut short. 2.2.2.2: 2.2.0.0: Timp: Str (9.8.7.6.5 in set).
