Description:
Sholom Secunda (1894-1974), a Ukrainian-Jewish composer whose family emigrated to the United States in 1907, began his musical career working in a comedy theater chorus. Following his formal education at the Institute for Music Arts in New York, he worked at the Odeon Theatre, the Metropolitan Opera House, and Liberty Theatre, and went on to write the melodies for the popular Yiddish songs "Bei Mir Bistu Shein" and "Donna Donna".
