Description:
Justin Heinrich Knecht's compositional interpretation of Moses Mendelssohn's poetic translation of Psalm 6 carries the fire of enlightened thought in music. Effective orchestration, targeted use of choir and vocal soloists as well as contrasting dynamics convey the full emotional range of this psalm text to the audience. Knecht has created an early romantic piece of southern German church music that was unjustly forgotten for a long time. As in his other psalm compositions, a flexible instrumentation can also be assumed here, which makes it possible to omit parts according to local conditions or to replace unavailable instruments with instruments similar in sound.
