Description:
In her new work, the British composer, who was born in 1950 and lives in Nuremberg, spans a poetic arc between delicate lyricism and bright, powerful orchestral colors. Inspired by birdsong and concern for endangered species, Olive composes wide-ranging harmonies - a slow walk through a soundscape in which birdsong constantly mixes into surprising combinations.
Vivienne Olive's oeuvre comprises more than 60 works, from compositions for recorder to opera. The impetus for her opera The Ugly Duckling was an international composition competition held by the Cologne University of Music in collaboration with the Cologne Opera in 2004. The fairytale opera with a libretto by Doris Dörrie was premiered in March 2010 in cooperation with the Nuremberg University of Music at the Nuremberg children's theater "Theater Mummpitz" with great success. On March 20, 2014, Vivienne Olive was appointed honorary professor at the Nuremberg University of Music.
