TRIBONES is a captivating work for three trombones and orchestra, a sound painting in four movements: Prelude, Romance, Iota and Finale. The evocative title combines virtuosity, lyricism and dynamics and illuminates the many expressive facets of this often misunderstood instrument. The prelude creates a solemn and imposing atmosphere in which the trombones respond to each other with majestic eloquence. The Romance, with its gentle melody, offers a moment of tenderness and reflection and reveals the full expressive depth of the brass. The third movement, Jota, is inspired by Spanish folk dances, with lively rhythms and cheerful dialogs between soloists and orchestra.
