Description:
Anniversario Dell' Dolore is a poignant work by composer Juraj Filas, dedicated to Mary Davidson. It was composed for choir and string orchestra and unfolds in two contrasting but deeply interconnected movements. The text is by Francesco Petrarca (1304-1374) and lends the music a poetic and timeless dimension. The first movement, Anniversario, is characterized by a meditative and introspective atmosphere and evokes memory, loss and remembrance. The vocal parts delicately interweave with the string textures and create a restrained emotional intensity. The second movement, Contrasti, lives up to its name by exploring pronounced contrasts in both rhythm and expression. Harmonic tensions and accentuated dynamics reflect an inner struggle between pain and reconciliation. The entire work is characterized by an expressive composition and great tonal sensitivity, which are typical of Filas' style. It offers the performers a space for profound expression and at the same time touches the listener with its sincerity and dramatic power.
