The edition series Bunt gestrichen presents tried and tested compositions and arrangements for children's string orchestra with an attractive sound, which can be supplemented by (recorder) flutes if required. All the works in this series combine very easy parts, often playable on empty strings and in simple rhythms, with somewhat more demanding parts for advanced players. Level 1 of the series is intended for beginners in the first two years of lessons. The parts are kept simple in terms of bowing and fingering and can be played entirely in the 1st position. The individual parts can be scored differently. For the possible variations, the corresponding templates with copying permission can be found in the sheet music edition. The piano part serves primarily as a rehearsal aid, but can also be used as support during performances.
The title of this piece, Drehorgelrondo, refers to the recurring drone of the fourth part, which is reminiscent of barrel organ music as it is occasionally found at fairgrounds. This ostinato drone part can be played entirely on empty strings and therefore also offers orchestral newcomers a beautiful and manageable task for their first performance.
