Description:
*La Buona Morte* is a cantata by Juraj Filas based on sonnets by Francesco Petrarca. The title—"The Good Death"—captures the essence of the work: At the end of his life, the poet looks back on his wasted years, repents of his transgressions, and turns to God to ask for His mercy and a peaceful end. The work consists of two parts. The first, moving and passionate, expresses remorse for time wasted. The second, "Anniversario," begins with the prayer "Padre del ciel": Remorse gives way to a plea and a cry for light. Filas translates this journey into intense, high-contrast music that leads from feverish exuberance to inner contemplation. The virtuosic, expressive voice enters into dialogue with the ensemble—until the final moment of calm.
