Description:
Poem for violin and string orchestra was composed in 1972. The members of the generation who grew during the great Shostakovich era are of course marked by him. The young composers not only admired his works but considered them as a basis for their studies, and the manner with which Shostakovitch personally directed the experts for the conservatory examinations when I passed mine (my diploma is signed by in his hand) further extended his influence. While there is no expressed written dedication on my piece, in actual fact the Poem represents an homage to this great musician. Svetlana Leontchik, July 2010, Russia
