Description:
Snowshoes is a musical poem portraying a winter trek up a mountain over deep drifted snow and dense evergreen forest to a bright summit vista. Students encounter lyrical melodies, a variety of articulations, dynamic swells, and moments of alternating 3/4 and 4/4 meter. An expansive opening melody in upper strings is accompanied by cello guitar-like pizzicato strum, leading to a first violin solo with fiddle-style droned open strings. Optional percussion and harp (or piano) add an exciting cinematic feel to this snowy adventure.
