French composer Eric Satie was an eccentric but important musical figure in early 20th century music. These variations are based on the melody found in the first movement of his Peccadilles Importunes ('Annoying Offenses') of 1913. The four variations expand upon various rhythmic and melodic aspects of the theme, while broadening the limited harmonic vocabulary of the original.
