Description:
The acclaimed Belgian harpist Alphonse Hasselmans (1845-1912), opera soloist, concert performer, and (from 1884 on) professor at the Conservatoire de Paris, published his Feuilles d’automne [Autumn Leaves] in 1899. The work, aptly subtitled Trois Improvisations faciles [Three Easy Improvisations], was made up of didactic pieces, designed for the training of young harpists, rather than a full-blown concert performance. The writing style is very close to that of Hasselman’s most frequently performed piece, La Source (DF 01688400) and allows the player to learn something essential to harp-playing: how to carry the theme with the thumbs. The edition includes a historical introduction both in French and English by noted French harpist Constance Luzzati.
