Santiago Lope (1871 - 1906) was a Spanish composer and conductor. At the age of 20, he was already director of the "Teatro Romea" in Madrid. He wrote the paso doble "Gallito" in 1905 as a commission from a well-known matador. Lope died in Burjassot (Valencia) on September 25, 1906 at the age of 35. A foundation bearing his name was set up in his honor in 1958. It awards scholarships to particularly talented music students at the "Conservatorio Superior de Música" in Valencia.
