Description:
I think Bach would have forgiven me for making the arrangements; whether he would have forgiven me for the way I did it is, of course, undecided. (Gustav Leonhardt)
The harpsichordist, conductor and organist Gustav Leonhardt is considered one of the pioneers of historical performance practice. From 1968 to 1978, Leonhardt arranged some of Johann Sebastian Bach's compositions for violin and cello solo for performance on the harpsichord. His arrangements are now presented by his pupil, the renowned harpsichordist Siebe Henstra. The manuscript notes from which Leonhardt played at the time served as the basis for the edition.
