Description:
In the compositions for solo organ, stylistic devices of old masters are combined in a new musical formulation. The result is chorale character pieces which, for all their musical freedom, take into account the content of the texts and the chorale melody as sources of inspiration with the greatest rigor.
These "12 little chorale fantasias in the old style" were originally intended for the 10 organs of the Altes Land. They take into account the special features of historical organs and can therefore be played particularly well on these instruments, some of which have a limited range or old tuning.
In view of the Reformation anniversary in 2017, these pieces can be a great enrichment for church services and concerts.
Albert Behrends was the church music director at St. Wilhadi in Stade for over 25 years. Albert Behrends passed away in April 2016.
