The influence of his work as an organist is clearly noticeable in the early orchestral works of Anton Bruckner (1824-1896). These compositions were written towards the end of his studies with Otto Kitzler, when Bruckner - already almost 40 years old - was still working as the cathedral organist in Linz.

His organistic thinking is particularly evident in his treatment of the orchestral groups: He shapes sound changes block by block - similar to the changing of organ stops. The motivic developments unfold in a quasi-improvised manner, often in the form of sequences, with terraced climaxes (manual changes) or strong dynamic contrasts, which are clearly delineated by general pauses (register changes). Against this background, Bruckner's early orchestral works are particularly suitable for an organ arrangement.

The transcriptions were recorded with great virtuosity by Rudolf Innig and have been released on the Dabringhaus & Grimm Audiovision label.
