Description:
Bach set beautiful chorales while he was still court organist in Weimar; he continued to do so diligently after his time as Kapellmeister in Köthen, and finally as music director in Leipzig, also court composer to the King of Poland and Elector of Saxony, wrote the music theorist Jakob Adlung in 1758. The present edition offers a selection of these organ chorales and chorale preludes suitable for today's worship practice, including only those works that are also included in the new Protestant hymnal - in the keys found there. While Alfred Dürr incorporates the source-critical findings of the editing work on the New Bach Edition into his edition, he also attaches great importance to a practical design: no or favorable turnarounds and - while maintaining the principle of optimal legibility - a system distribution of the notes that corresponds as far as possible to the hand division when playing make it easier for the organist to work with Bach's "beautiful chorales".
