Description:
The fact that Anton Webern's delicate, subtle and intimate music can also be performed on the organ may come as a surprise to some. The Duruflé and Messiaen pupil Xavier Darasse (1934-1992) has adapted the famous three-movement Piano Variations op. 27 from 1936, which provided decisive impulses for serial music, for organ. His arrangement is provided with a carefully elaborated registration and manual distribution. The result is convincing and makes this chamber music-like late work by Webern appealing for organists.
Darasse's adaptation is now being made accessible to a broad public for the first time. The Munich organ professor Bernhard Haas, a pupil of Xavier Darasse, has prefaced his teacher's manuscript with a foreword to the edition containing important notes on interpretation.
