From the preface:
The attempt to integrate three musical forms (passacaglia - fugue - chorale) into a meaningful, gliding symbiosis determines Ricarda Meinhold's (later Hartung) second organ composition from 1985. The ostinato (constantly recurring) serial theme is rhythmically altered in the course of the work's development and is thus, for structural reasons, only partially recognizable. The symphonic disposition of the Sauer organ (inaugurated in 1891) also provided the composer with valuable inspiration.
Opus 10 No. 2 was commissioned and premiered in Mühlhausen (Marienkirche) in Thuringia on March 19, 1986 and performed in 24 German cities as well as in Prague and Austria from this date onwards.
