With the first volume of the new "x-KEYS" series, Matthias Nagel presents "musical reflections" on Advent and Christmas. Slightly groovy, yet far removed from underground music. It is no coincidence that the volume is being released in 2020, a year that is very thought-provoking and in which "O du fröhliche", "Fröhlich soll mein Herze springen" and all similar songs for Advent and Christmas may not come across our lips with the usual "unrestricted" cheerfulness. And so the composer has attempted to present these much-loved carols in reflective, mature interpretations that still celebrate and respect the mystery of the songs. These piano pieces contain some musical colorations, some seriousness, some questioning. By being unusual in some places, they aim to awaken the listener, to "boldly tread unfamiliar paths", and sometimes to convey a new vitality.
