The ANACROUSE collection offers novice and experienced pianists alike a wide choice of classical works, from the Renaissance to the modern era.

We have set ourselves the goal of offering both "must-haves" from the classical repertoire and pieces by sometimes forgotten composers, all of undeniable pedagogical value. Each piece, sold individually, has been the subject of careful editorial work, both in terms of the musical text and its engraving, in order to guarantee musicians the conditions indispensable to the pleasures derived from frequent trade in these works.

The scores are offered in the form of traditional works (paper sheets), and also available by download.

Claude Debussy composed his two arabesques in 1888. These compositions are part of the first period in his development of piano writing. The future of a new language is revealed in these pieces, through the use of a modern conception of the melodic curve, harmonically immobile. This conception characterizes the main substance of the arabesque idea, so dear to Debussy.
Arabesque no. 1 claims a ternary form, as does arabesque no. 2. The first arabesque in E major features untied triplets that seem to suggest the evolution of his musical language in the treatment of arpeggios and in the ease with which he used modulations.
As soon as it entered the repertoire, the piece took a constant place in living music. According to Léon Vallas, its "suppleness is reminiscent of the brilliant lightness of Delibes' ballets". Alfred Hitchkook gives us arabesque n°1 in the dinner scene of the film "Les oiseaux".
The first arabesque is on a par with a literary piece. Like an Impressionist painting, this piece expresses a refined, reserved ardor of the senses.
Amateurs of Seurat or Monnet paintings, Arabesque n°1 will introduce you to the half-word universe of Claude Debussy, the first great Impressionist musician.
