I met Milcho Leviev in Los Angeles during the 1980s, and we enjoyed many years of productive collaboration in both recording and live performance. My Three Psalms for solo piano are strongly influenced by Milcho’s distinctive compositional voice—the very style that established him as a pioneer in fusing Balkan folk idioms with jazz. Our musical partnership proved inspiring not only for its improvisational inventiveness, but also for expanding and enriching my compositional vocabulary, which remains central to my work today.
