Description:
The Sonatina in G major (Anh. 5/1) is probably the first encounter with Beethoven's piano music for many budding pianists. Yet one cannot even be sure whether it, like its sister work in F major (Anh. 5/2), was written by Beethoven at all. In any case, they are attributed to Beethoven in the first edition, which only appeared after Beethoven's death, and an alternative composer has not yet been identified. They have certainly lost none of their appeal in the classroom. Together with the Sonatina WoO 50, which Beethoven provided with fingerings for his childhood friend Franz Gerhard Wegeler, the Wiener Urtext Edition is reissuing these short introductory works to Beethoven's piano oeuvre. This means that even beginners can congratulate Beethoven musically on his 250th birthday.
