Description:
The emphasis placed by the Bach and Handel renaissance on cultivating their works, which were soaring with contrapuntal grandeur, has, it seems, somewhat suppressed any sympathy for the essentially different charms of the new "galant style". Georg Philipp Telemann with his piano works, especially the "Fantasias", can be regarded as one of the most talented and important representatives of this style, who strove for a balance between suite and sonata: he was familiar with the styles of the time like no other; he mastered and met French, Italian and Polish tastes with aplomb.
An almost inexhaustible wellspring of melodic fantasy lends his pieces a delightful freshness.
