Description:
Facsimile of the original edition in the possession of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna. Series: "Denkmäler der Musik in Salzburg", facsimile editions, vol. 13. Introduction by Gerhard Walterskirchen, transcription by Heribert Metzger.
In 1797 the eleven-year-old Carl Maria von Weber came to Salzburg with his father's traveling troupe and in the following year he was accepted as a pupil and taught by Johann Michael Haydn. One of the first results of his lessons with Haydn were the Six Fugettes, which were published as op. 1 at his father's instigation and bear witness to the young Weber's beginnings as a composer. One review speaks of the pieces as an "excellent and extremely promising rarity". The themes are vivid; numbers 3 and 4 are based on the same theme. Their elaboration corresponds to the concise form given by the figured basses, which, however, also aims at the melodic flow of the voices.
