Chris Caine

A Year in 12 Keys

This collection of Diatonic Piano Studies by Chris Caine blends compositional elegance with targeted technical challenges for intermediate to advanced pianists. With seven of the studies featuring in the Piano syllabus repertoire lists at Grade 5–8, this collection is perfect for exam preparation and performance alike.

Each of the studies is named after a month of the year and is set in one of the 12 keys, staying true to its diatonic roots (without chromatic notes or accidentals outside the key signature). These engaging pieces deepen pianist’s familiarity with each key while exploring diverse musical styles. Discover the Musical Theatre flair of ‘January’, the contemporary Classical charm of ‘February’, the French elegance of ‘November’, the pop-inspired ‘August’, and the intricate Fughetta of ‘June’.

Perfect for pianists seeking to enrich their performance repertoire or prepare for Grade 5–8 exams, this collection offers an ideal blend of educational value and musical enjoyment.
