A propos is a series of piano pieces composed for various occasions. "A propos ... de Diabelli" was created for Rudolf Buchbinder's "Diabelli Project" in the Beethoven Year 2020 and was also released on CD together with his recording of the Diabelli Variations. "A propos ... de Diabelli" is a commission from the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde Wien, the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, the Brucknerhaus Linz, the Philharmonie de Paris, the Gulbenkian Foundation Lisbon, the Ruhr Piano Festival and the Tonhalle-Gesellschaft Zürich, funded by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation. Johannes Maria Staud wrote "A propos ... de raisins rouges" in 2019 for the pianist Mathilde Hoursiangou as part of her project "Saiten-Tasten", which is dedicated to researching playing techniques inside the piano. "A propos ... de raisins rouges" is a composition commissioned by the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna for Mathilde Hoursiangou's project Saiten-Tasten, funded by the Ernst von Siemens Music Foundation, the SKE Fund of Austro Mechana and the Austrian Federal Chancellery. "A propos ... de nuages chassants" is the third work in the series of A propos pieces for piano. The title refers to the brass quintet "Jagende Wolken, blendendes Blau!", whose name in turn is taken from a poem by Arno Holz. "A propos ... de nuages chassants" was commissioned by the Salzburg International Mozart Competition.
