The score presented here is a pianistic transcription of the second movement of Johann Sebastian Bach's suite no. 3, one of the German composer's most justly famous pages. Originally written for solo strings and harpsichord continuo, this Aria undoubtedly owes its popularity to its grandiose character, its expressive power and the immutable beauty of its musical discourse. The flexible melodic line is supported by the regular rhythm of the bass, which alternates between ascending and descending octave leaps. The contrapuntal entanglements in the middle of the second part of the Aria are the expressive climax of the piece, which ends as it began, in an atmosphere of great serenity.
