Description:
The present work comes from Cantata No. 156 and is referred to as No. 1 "Sinfonia". Later it received the nickname "Arioso" due to its expressive and song-like character. Bach composed it for oboe, strings, and continuo in F major. He later used this piece as a slow movement in his harpsichord concerto in F minor BWV 1056. The "Arioso" is also the main theme of the film: "Bach in Brazil" by Ansgar Ahlers from 2015.
