Colinde (Christmas songs) are traditional Romanian songs inspired by Romanian folklore and the traditions of the Romanian people. They are of pre-Christian origin, belong to an epic-lyrical genre and generally comprise between 20 and 60 verses. Colinde are sung at Christmas and New Year. These songs contain good wishes, words with a positive charge, glorifying the birth of the Son of God on earth and preparing the transition to a new year from which better things are expected: better and more fruits, prosperity in the community, health, harmony in the family, love and abundance in the home.
