Description:
The piano virtuoso, professor at the Academy of the Mozarteum Salzburg and composer Kurt Leimer (1920 – 1974) enjoyed an excellent education in Berlin at the age of sixteen thanks to various recommendations, including von Furtwängler. He wrote a total of four piano concertos for himself and was able to count on the collaboration of the conductor and pedagogue Kurt Overhoff for the preparation of the score. The Second Piano Concerto was written in 1947 and in its three movements demonstrates Leimer's sensational piano technique, his pronounced sense of sound and a stylistic openness that combines late Romantic, neo-baroque and jazz elements. The first edition of the score, including piano reduction and orchestral parts, published by HUG Musikverlage, is based on the manuscripts that are kept in the musicological archive of the Zentralbibliothek Zürich. In addition to historical recordings with the composer as soloist, the concert exists as a new recording on the Schweizer Fonogramm label with pianist Robert Bily. The orchestral material is available on loan from the publisher. Contact: info@hug-musikverlage. CH
